Social media can be useful to schools only if directed towards the achievement of the institution’s educational purpose. It must be administered by the right personnel such as the principal and head teachers. The decision should also involve the parents as their primary concern is their children being exposed to social media. When pursuing a plan to use social media in schools, make sure that you are prepared to manage risk and answer questions – both from parents and the community. Make sure that stakeholders have a clear understanding about the plan – how the school would do it (example, a curriculum-based project).
